Cum Laude Project made to obtain my Bachelor degree on Musical Studies with emphasis on sound engineer. It was made from e-waste and cheap electronics and its main goal was to give back the sound engineer a musical roll that during my degree studies I believe lost. I know in the music’s history there have been many engineers leading the vanguard but the true is that my study program often seems to forget the musical quality on the sound engineer’s education. So the TIM&E was thought to be a real prove the engineer not only as capable player but also ass a Luthier and Sound designer.
That message arrives Pure Data where it is unpacked and utilized to activate sonic events and to modify its qualities like the frequency, the amplitude and Granular Synthesis parameters. Part of the TUIO message is packed again, but this time under the OSC protocol and that way it is sent to Processing where was built the visual feedback of the TIM&E.

There’s a document where we collected the construction process of the TIM&E. It was written thinking it could serve as a kind of tutorial if anyone else would like to build their own interface.

TIM&E

Touch Interface for Musician & Sound Engineer
The workflow in the TIM&E begins with a hacked PS3Eye which captures the black & white image of the hands playing around the TIM&E surface, the data is translated by the computer vision software which in this case is the Community Core Vision - CCV- (old Tbeta), where the image becomes TUIO messages.
